The Crucifixion of Christ on Calvary

Posted on March 29, 2024

NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio — South Main Church of Christ looks to the New Testament, in the books of Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, for the story about how Christ was crucified at Calvary.

In Matthew chapter 27, verse 46, Jesus cried out “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

In Luke chapter 23, verse 34, he pleads “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing”.

It was on the day of Jesus’ crucifixion at Calvary that the sky went completely dark for three hours, the ground shook at the moment of his last breath, and the tombs of saints opened and their bodies raised from the dead.

Jesus sacrificed his life to atone for the sins of mankind. Jesus’ life was sinless, but gave his life so that man could receive salvation and eternal life in heaven.
