NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio — Members of South Main Church of Christ gathered Wednesday evening in part to assemble grocery bags containing necessary ingredients for a Thanksgiving meal ahead of the upcoming holiday.
Dozens of our members have been collaborating to assemble the donated canned and boxed goods to give away on Sat., Nov. 22, 2025.
“We follow Christ. We adhere to the Bible, not adding or taking away from it. Our congregation has been studying the book of Matthew. In that, Christ said he has compassion for those who have nothing to eat. Christ did not want to turn people away hungry,” Jim Lanning, one of three elders at South Main Church of Christ, said. “We know some people in New Lexington and the surrounding area have been hurting this year. We have been in touch this year with the Southeast Ohio Food Bank in Logan. They are among many who are shouldering a heavy load due to many factors. We want to help.”
The Thanksgiving Meal Kit Distribution Drive-Thru is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday and last until all meals have been distributed.
Those wishing to receive one meal kit per vehicle are asked to enter our neighborhood by using S. Main St. to Higley St., then turn left at the top of the hill onto Ridge Ave. The church entrance is at the corner of Smith St., and Ridge Ave. Attendees will be asked to exit the church property onto Smith St. and drive toward S. Main St. If there is traffic, drivers will be asked to kindly turn north up the hill to help alleviate congestion.
