Ernie Starling, elder at South Main Church of Christ, offers this answer.

“In the Old Testament, yes. In the New Testament, no,” Ernie said.

1 Timothy 4:3, “forbidding to marry and commanding to abstain from meats which God has created to be received with thanksgiving of them, which believe and know the truth.”

Roman 14:14, “I know and am persuaded by the Lord, Jesus Christ, that there is nothing unclean of itself, but to Him that esteemeth anything to be uncleam to him, it is unclean.”

“A human being should not go against his conscience on anything, because when you do that, you open yourself to falling into a sinful path,” Ernie added.
